  97. This package contains StopWatch Version 1.70 by TAN$TAAFL(TM) Software
  98. Company. This document contains only a brief description of the package
  99. and its features, along with instructions for its installation. Quite
  100. detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in archived
  101. form, and is more easily read after installation.
  102.  
  103. If you've ever wished you could use your computer as a precision
  104. chronograph (timer) then StopWatch is the program for you. Once you
  105. calibrate your computer for three levels of precision you can use the
  106. Up, Down, Race, Lap, Game, and Split Timers to time anything from your
  107. eggs in the morning, the Indy 500, or a scientific experiment to an
  108. accuracy of millionths of a second.
  109.  
  110. StopWatch is a shareware program. This evaluation version is a full
  111. featured program and is not crippled in any way. You may use it for up
  112. to 30 days, without charge (see STWATCH.DOC for more details). If you
  113. like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  114. period, you are required to pay for the program (see ORDER.DOC for more
  115. details). Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers,
  116. etc.) to obtain this program was a fee for their copying and
  117. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the
  118. program.

  120. As a registration incentive you will receive the latest versions of
  121. StopWatch 16 and 32, which is optimized for 32 bit registers. The 32 bit
  122. register optimized version of StopWatch is for 80386 and up computers.
  123. The registered versions include realtime speed calculations for all up
  124. and lap timers, a printer options menu, and a holiday editor. Plus
  125. receive two small utilities. One is NEWCLS.COM, a replacement for the DOS
  126. CLS command which allows you to set any valid combination of screen
  127. colors whenever you clear the screen. The second is GUARDIAN.SYS which
  128. guards your computer against any attack through DOS's backdoor. The
  129. registration reminder screen has been removed from the registered
  130. versions and you will be notified by TAN$TAAFL(TM) Software Company of
  131. any major upgrades.

  151. ===== Installation =====================================
  152.  
  153. If you are installing StopWatch from the ASP CD-ROM Disk please use the
  154. installation procedure provided on the ASP CD-ROM Disk. If you are
  155. installing StopWatch from a vendor who extracted it from the ASP CD-ROM
  156. Disk use the installation program provided from the vendor. All others
  157. use the installation program provided from TAN$TAAFL Software Company.
  158.  
  159. The installation procedure for StopWatch is very simple. You will need
  160. at least 338K of free disk space to store all of the programs and
  161. documentation files.
  162.  
  163. Use the INSTALL.EXE file to install the StopWatch files on any disk
  164. drive. At the DOS prompt type INSTALL followed by a carriage return if
  165. you are logged onto the drive and directory that INSTALL.EXE is in. Or
  166. if you are on the C: drive and INSTALL.EXE is on the A: drive type
  167. A:\INSTALL followed by a carriage return. You do not have to be logged
  168. onto the drive and directory that INSTALL.EXE is in. INSTALL.EXE will
  169. take over and guide you through the installation process.
  170.  
  171. INSTALL.EXE checks itself and all of the programs in the StopWatch
  172. Package, except VENDINFO.DIZ, for signs of alteration, tampering, or
  173. infection by a computer virus.
  174.  
  175. INSTALL.EXE allows you to select the files you wish to install. It does
  176. not require you to install all the files and then delete the ones you do
  177. not want.
  178.  
  179. INSTALL.EXE has very sophisticated error detection routines that will
  180. tell you if anything goes wrong during the installation process. While
  181. each file is being transferred the data is verified by reading it back
  182. and comparing it against the original data.
  183.  
  184. During the actual transfer process if any error is detected you will be
  185. informed and installation will be stopped. This will mean that you have
  186. a problem with the source or destination disk that has to be taken care
  187. of before you can continue the installation process.
  188.  
  189. EXECUTING StopWatch
  190.  
  191. StopWatch does not run on the 8086, 8088, 80186 or 80188 CPUs.
  192.  
  193. StopWatch may be executed from either a floppy or hard disk drive. To
  194. minimize loading time it is recommended that StopWatch be run from a
  195. hard disk drive. You will also be able to create larger data files on a
  196. hard disk drive. StopWatch CANNOT be executed from a CD-ROM disk because
  197. it has to be able to create files in the directory in which the EXE file
  198. is located. CD-ROM is a read-only media and you cannot create files on
  199. it.
  200.  
  201. If you desire to execute StopWatch from any directory, the directory
  202. name that StopWatch resides in must be placed in the "PATH=" environment
  203. variable. Check your DOS manual for more details. If the Directory is
  204. not in the "PATH=" environment variable you will first have to log on to
  205. the required directory with the following DOS Command: "CD STWATCH"
  206. assuming that "STWATCH" is the directory name you have the EXE file in.
  207.  
  208. There are three command line parameters, /B, /I, and /P, that may be
  209. entered when executing StopWatch. (See page 8 in STWATCH.DOC for complete
  210. details.)
  211.  
  212. From the DOS Prompt type in SW16 followed by any command line parameters
  213. and press the Enter Key. StopWatch will load and be ready to run.
  214.  
  215. MULTITASKING ENVIRONMENT
  216.  
  217. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN StopWatch IN A MULTITASKING ENVIRONMENT. It will
  218. adversely effect the timing routines and erroneous results will be
  219. displayed. StopWatch will refuse to load and run if it is executed from
  220. Windows, OS/2, or the DOS Task Switcher.

  225. management routines that slow down the CPU.

  253. SW16.PRN. This file is accessable to any text editor that can handle
